George Penner started working for Homeshields Industries (screen manufacturing plant) in 1975 and little did he know his future would be in windows. George rolled screens in his first year of high school and when he graduated in 1977 from MBCI in Winnipeg, he could roll 500 screens a day.

In 1977 George started his career as a screen roller at Duraco and cleared up three months backlog in four days. Within one month of working George showed interest in the manufacturing process of PVC windows. He worked his way through all the stations in the manufacturing process and within three years was asked to become Duraco's Plant Manager. George furthered his education and took Formanship I, II, III, T.V. Radio and Electronics as well as Business Management I, II. George played an instrumental part in the expansion of Duraco Industries by setting up manufacturing plants all over the world. He set up plants in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. In 1980 George flew with Gerry Schoenfeld to Lodi New Jersey to set up a plant in the U.S.A. They continued to set up plants in the U.S.A., one in Minneapolis and Williston North Dakota.

In 1983 the Japanese searched all over the world to find the best PVC window manufacturing plant. They were told in Germany to contact Duraco windows in Winnipeg. The staff at Duraco were surprised to receive a fax from Japan Lumberland expressing an interest in seeing the plant in operation.

Japan Lumberland came for a visit and were impressed with the North American plant. In April of 1984 George flew to Japan to help set up a manufacturing plant. He spent one month training the Japanese to manufacture PVC casements, awnings, bay and bow windows and patio doors.  Duraco windows gained recognition as an International based company and made the front page of Aluminews magazine.

Ironically, other window companies told Duraco that know one would ever buy a plastic window. They would be out of business within 5 years. Obviously that never happened.

In September 1988, George left Duraco to become one of Manitoba's biggest window and door dealers in Brandon. His first year was a great success.

In 1989 Duraco requested that George fly to Hawaii to supervise the installation of PVC windows in the complex called Pacific Ocean Plaza, located on the island of Kawaii. This was a wonderful experience and tribute to the hard work and experience that George gained from working in the PVC Industry through Duraco Window Industry.

George gives a lot of credit to his friend and mentor Gerry Schoenfeld for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to become the youngest Plant Manager of a window company at the age of 20.

Since 1988 George has owned J & M Window & Door Company. They are proud to have their son, Ryan install for 7 years and he will move into sales this year, 2006. The company is continuing to grow and has expanded as of May 2005 to serve Winnipeg and surrounding area.
